Looking Back at Hungate

From the autumn of 2006 to the end of 2011 a team from York Archaeological Trust investigated the archaeology of the Hungate area of York, as part of the regeneration of an often overlooked corner of the city. Looking Back at Hungate is a new exhibition which uses artefacts found by York Archaeological Trust during the 5-year excavation. Click here to find out more.

The notes below may be useful to teachers planning a visit to the exhibition or in preparation for one of our new linked KS3/4/5 workshops.

The packs can be ordered in advance which has the added advantage of saving you valuable time on the day of your visit. Staff from DIG have carefully picked out our most popular items, which are both fun and educational.

Archaeologist’s pack: Price £3.50
Why not take your archaeological experience home with you with our fun and striking stationery collection, based on an archaeologist’s Ranging Rod design. Contains pen, pencil, logo pad and bookmark.
JORVIK Coin Pack: Price £3.50
During 1980-81, two Viking-Age coin dies were found at the York Archaeological Trust’s famous Coppergate excavation. They are the only two to be discovered anywhere in the Viking World. This is a unique coin souvenir pack of replicas of the pennies that changed hands in Viking-Age York over a thousand years ago. Includes JORVIK struck coin, coin necklace and coin key ring.
